Carbon Plus was born in 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, with a simple but urgent mission: turn biomass residues into climate solutions.

Starting in Malaysia—a tropical region rich in biomass but disproportionately exposed to the impacts of climate change—we set out to prove that the Global South could lead in carbon removal.

From our first demonstration project we developed Malaysia’s first industrial-scale commercial biochar plant, transforming biomass residues into durable carbon sinks and valuable by-products. We partnered with palm oil producers, concrete innovators, and local communities to show how the region can drive high-impact change.

Today, Carbon Plus is scaling this model globally. Our journey reflects a belief that climate action must be both local and global: empowering local communities on the ground, while delivering the durable carbon removal the world needs urgently.
